Stephen Potter grew up in New York City in a family of artists. From an early age he was attracted to sculpture, because of the substantial and tactile properties. Potter is drawn to sculpt the human form, inspired by the expression of its fundamental states and movements.  He feels that the human figure provides the greatest challenge and possibility for expression.   Potter combines a classical aesthetic and a modern sensibility in his effort to create, in which his work is personal, complex and evocative. He studied extensive drawing, anatomy and sculpture at the Art Students League in New York under merit scholarships.  Among his awards was the “Best in Show” at the Santa Fe Trail International Art Show. Potter now lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
